How Do You Smoke Wax Dabs?
Who Should Try Smoking Wax Dabs?
Why We Love Wax Dabs
Wax smoking is a method of smoking weed that involves highly concentrated cannabis extracts rather than flower. These concentrates are often called "wax" because they have a sticky, gooey consistency.
Concentrates are extracted from cannabis by separating the cannabinoid-rich trichomes of the plant from the rest of the plant material. The result is a cannabis product that's loaded with flavorful, aromatic, psychoactive compounds.
Cannabis concentrates have, as their name suggests, a much higher concentration of THC than flower, edibles, or other cannabis products. As a result, they produce a very intense high, and a little bit of a cannabis extract goes a long way.
To be more specific, cannabis flower usually has about 20-30% THCa content. on the other hand, dabs, with their highly concentrated nature, can contain more than 90% THCa, making them exponentially more potent than traditional flower. High THC concentrations can be overwhelming if you've never used cannabis before, so we recommend trying regular flower before moving on to wax and other THC concentrates.
There are multiple forms of wax out there, but there are four that are by far the most popular: shatter, badder, crumble, and live resin.
Shatter is one of the most legendary forms of THC wax. It has significantly higher THC content than regular flower, and it contains many different essential cannabinoids like CBD, THCv, and more. It has a translucent appearance akin to smoky glass, and its texture is relatively brittle and hard.
As one of the purest forms of weed wax, shatter has very high THC content. In addition, it's not the most user-friendly type of THC wax, as its texture makes it relatively difficult to load onto a dab nail.
Dab badder is famous for its buttery, whipped consistency. Unlike shatter, this type of weed wax is very pliable and easy to load onto a dab nail, add to a joint or bowl, or vape. Traditional methods of using highly concentrated badder usually involve a dab rig, but it's incredibly versatile and an attractive alternative to shatter.
We're big fans of badder at Mood, and we offer several versions of it in our shop.
As the name suggests, crumble is a highly concentrated form of THC that has a crumbly, dry texture that sets it apart from other forms of smoking wax. It's not as beginner-friendly as some of the other options out there because of its texture. Because of that, if you're new to dabs, you might want to save crumble for later.
Live resin is a THC concentrate made by flash-freezing freshly harvested cannabis plants, which locks in their terpene and cannabinoid content. The live resin extraction process creates a sticky, sugar-like substance that is easy to load onto a dab nail for cannabis use. Live resin is very high in THC and other cannabinoids, making it the source of a powerful high.
There are a few different ways to smoke THC wax, and each has its own benefits. The classic method is using a dab rig, a tool that's similar to a bong but is designed to heat wax to high temperatures.
Instead of a bowl, a dab rig features a nail, which you can heat with a butane torch to vaporize concentrates like shatter and badder. Once the nail reaches a high temperature, the heat can amplify the effects of the concentrate, producing a powerful high.
In addition to using a dab rig, you can also smoke wax dabs using a dabber pen or an E-nail. These smaller smoking tools have a heated tip that vaporizes concentrates without making them reach overly high temperatures. E-nails are the best option for precise temperature control; they contain electric heating elements that vaporize the concentrate at just the right temp.
In addition, you can also smoke dabs by adding them to your joints. By mixing regular cannabis flower with smoking dabs, you can make your experience of smoking cannabis even more intense. Some of the most commonly smoked concentrates used in joints are moonrocks and hash.
Smoking dabs is best for experienced cannabis users with a high tolerance for THC. If you're new to cannabis, concentrates probably aren't the ideal place to start. Instead of smoking wax dabs first, try rolling a joint or smoking a pre-roll. That way, you can get a feel for how THC and other cannabinoids make you feel in smaller amounts.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a way to elevate the power and intensity of your high, smoking wax is perfect for you. Moving up from joints to hits from a dab rig can be very rewarding, especially if you're already familiar with the amazing effects of THC.
Smoking wax is one of our favorite ways to enjoy cannabis. The intensity of the flavors and aromas from dab is second to none; it's immersive and a feast for the senses.
Plus, the ritual of loading up your dab nail, heating it, and taking a nice hit is soothing and relaxing, especially after a long day.
It's worth mentioning that not all concentrates have the same effect. Low-quality dabs that come from unreputable sources can produce an inconsistent high, leading to unpleasant experiences.
