Why Should I Care About THCa?

The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, more commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, changed everything.

It removed hemp from the government’s list of controlled substances. It also differentiated “marijuana,” which is still federally illegal, from “hemp,” which is legal.

The distinction is that any dry cannabis product with less than 0.3 percent Delta-9 THC is considered hemp. Anything more isn’t.

The THCa Liquid Diamonds Extraction Process

Step One: Freeze Cannabis

Frozen cannabis plants can retain moisture that features aromatic terpenes and other essential cannabis compounds.

It’s common for growers and producers to flash-freeze their cannabis plants with dry ice or liquid nitrogen to keep them as high quality as possible.

Step Two: Extract Live Resin

Through a process known as “closed-loop extraction,” cannabis professionals can extract live resin from frozen plants.

The process is fascinating.

They make a solvent using a blend of butane and propane — the more butane, the more terpenes can be preserved. The solvent is then chilled at temperatures as low as 80 degrees Celsius.

Finally, they use the chilled solvent to wash frozen plant material in a commercial-grade, closed-loop hydrocarbon extractor.

Step Three: Crystalize the Live Resin

Once the live resin is made, it’s best to store it somewhere that’s slightly above room temperature to separate for a period of two-to-three weeks.

Over that time, cannabinoid crystals take shape, and these are our THCa liquid diamonds. The resulting product is a highly potent cannabis concentrate.
